Jan’alai’s Spaulders, Incineratus & Mr. Robot

Last night was a really, really good raid night for me. I’ve been hearing about this website for lazy people called Ask Mr. Robot and last night before the raid I decided to give it a shot. Mr. Robot is a World of Warcraft gear optimization and theorycrafting website. Basically this website analyzes your gear, tells you how inept you are, and then tells you what you should do to achieve optimal results.

During last week’s raid, I was pulling about 14k consistent DPS (damage per second). I also used to have difficulty getting hit-capped. After reforging my gear and swapping some enchants I was able to pull between 18-21k DPS and about 23k on boss fights. Of course I can’t thank only Mr. Robot for my 6-8k DPS increase. In Patch 4.1, Blizzard decided to double the area-of-effect damage Mind Sear does, and since BoT has a decent amount of our trash pulls, I basically spammed the crap out of it.

I would recommend that everyone who raids at least load your character into Mr. Robot and note the suggested optimizations. Click here if you would like to view my current Mr. Robot optimization. (Mr. Robot updates in real-time and I raid every week, so don’t be surprised if it says that I haven’t done some of the optimizations.)

Magmaw dropped just what I needed.

Last night we decided to farm Magmaw again for anyone that needed gear that he drops. Just playing around I threw out, “Hey, if we hit up Magmaw… I could always use that Incineratus (Drop Rate: 31%).” (A better PvE item over my Vicious Gladiator’s Gavel.) We took him down in one try because we’re just awesome and guess what dropped? Incineratus. Then I asked our enchanter if he could throw me a Power Torrent enchant and BOOM! Which surprised me since it costs four Maelstrom Crystals – and let’s be honest, those haven’t been cheap to come by Pre-4.1.

Wheeling and dealing in Zul’Aman.

After our hunter left the raid, we decided to split into two dungeon groups and run Zul’Aman. We went for a timed run, but we wiped a few times because the mobs are packed pretty tight. Then Jan’alai’s Spaulders (Drop Rate: 23%) dropped from (guess who!) Jan’alai. My mouth dropped to the freaking floor. No, it’s not the best the best-in-slot item for a shadow priest, but it has flipping hit on it, I’m having strange hit problems, and it’s a serious upgrade over my blue Mantle of Master Cho. Then the warlock rolled on it – and won. Boo. I couldn’t believe it happened, but it is what it is.

Then Formula: Enchant Bracer – Major Strength dropped off a trash pull! An enchanting formula with a flipping 0.14% drop rate. That’s 1 out of 700 and I won that shit. In the end, a head piece dropped from the final boss and since I was running with our main enchanter (and he won Jan’alai’s Spaulders) I decided I’d just throw it out there… “I’ll give you this ugly head piece and that formula for those shoulders.” He took it. I didn’t want the stupid formula anyway. I would never use it and throwing it on the auction house would be a downright shady thing to do. Duh, winning!
